TANNING-DEVICE LABELING LAW VIOLATIONS CLAIMED

People looking for the perfect tan are getting burned by tanning salons that violate federal rules by failing to alert the public to the dangers of such devices, consumer activists said Wednesday.

A U.S. Public Interest Research Groups survey of 100 tanning salons ound that nearly half of the 183 machines in these salons did not bear a federally required warning label.

The Food and Drug Administration since 1980 has required tanning devices to carry a label that cautions against overexposure. - Associated Press
