Organizers hope the run will become an annual event scheduled on or near St. Patrick's Day to promote the school and raise money.
Carol Chappell, one of the race coordinators and the school's director of development, said the school probably didn't make any money this year and may have broke even. But she hopes corporate sponsorship and increased participation next year will help raise money for the privately funded school on Jefferson Street.
The race was co-sponsored by the city of Roanoke, which sent two dozen officers to help monitor the event, and the Star City Striders running club.
The five-kilometer course - slightly more than three miles - began at the school, wound around downtown and through the market and ended back at the school.
Though a light rain fell during most of the race, the 215 runners were spared the worst of Saturday morning's thunderstorms, which began with a downpour just minutes after the last runner crossed the finished line.
Awards and prizes for age categories, ranging from under 13 to over 60, were donated by dozens of local businesses.
Gretchen Misslbeck, 30, completed the course in 19:38 to lead the women runners. And Steve Hetherington, 31, finished first for the men with a time of 16:08.
