Helen Lanter Hawkins, age 68, died Wednesday in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was retired from the Wythe County Community Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Garland K. Hawkins, Speedwell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Mark Lampkins, Speedwell; Shirley and Scott Mitchell, Greensboro, N.C.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Harold G. Hawkins, Wytheville; Roger and Donna Hawkins, Salem; two sisters, Mary L. Livingston, Charleston, S.C.; Imogene Jones, S.C.; one sister-in-law, Inez Lanter, Roanoke; one brother, Roy D. Lanter, Roanoke; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Grubb Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. J.B. Shelton with the interment to follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens, Rural Retreat. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
