Lovern, a junior, struck out 13 of the 15 he faced. The other two outs came on groundouts. Lovern also drove in three runs.
Shawsville's Robert Ryan hit a two-run home run in the second inning, and freshman Ben Basham drove in three runs.
The game did not count in the Mountain Empire District standings. Shawsville is 3-1, and Rocky Gap is 0-2.

It took eight innings, but Grayson County came back with a rally that overcame Group AA Carroll County 7-6.
The Blue Devils (2-2) scored the tying and winning runs on Devin Floyd's bases-loaded single with none out.
Floyd also got the win, his second of the week. He pitched three innings, giving up one hit and striking out five.
The Cavaliers are 2-1.
At Riner, Chris Shark struck out 10, walked eight and yielded five hits as Auburn (2-2) defeated Galax 9-4. B.J. Wojciechowski had a two-run home run and an RBI-double, and Skip Thompson hit a double and a triple and drove in three runs for the Eagles.
At Fort Chiswell, the Pioneers rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat Group AA Graham 5-4.
B.W. Hill pitched a seven-hitter and had three RBI, including the winning runs for Fort Chiswell (3-0).
Shawn Dalton and Doug James also had a couple of hits each for the Pioneers and each drove in a run.
Graham is 0-1.
Liberty stayed unbeaten in Seminole District play by edging Altavista 3-2 on the Minutemen's field.
Pitcher Scott Martin (2-0) had a big day. On offense, he doubled in two runs in the first inning and later added a single. On the mound, he allowed six hits, struck out eight and didn't give up an earned run to the Colonels (3-2, 3-2).
Bennie Morgan hit a two-run homer in the fourth for Liberty (5-0, 5-0).
Northside's Kelly Dampeer helped the host Vikings romp in their opener as they whipped Christiansburg 8-3. Chris Hatcher and Allan Christian each added two hits for Northside.
Freshman Mark Freelan pitched four innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven.
At Dublin, Pulaski County (1-2) walloped Bluefield 11-2. Kevin Alexander struck out nine and pitched a five-hitter while giving up no earned runs.
The Cougars had 14 hits. Eddie Murray had two singles and a double and two RBI to lead the attack.
Doug Witcher pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead Staunton River (1-4, 1-4) to a 9-0 Seminole District victory over William Campbell (0-5, 0-5).
