JOHN, DONELLA M.

John, Donella M., age 83, of Salem, died Thursday evening in Richfield Nursing Center. She was the widow of Dr. Byron W. John, who passed away in 1987. She served, along with her husband, for more than thirty years in United Methodist Churches in both Maryland and West Virginia. She was a leader in her own right, having been elected Vice-President and then President of the Methodist Women of the West Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church and, during that time, was elected as a delegate to three General Conferences of the church, 1952-1956-1960. Surviving are four sons and a daughter, namely Dr. Ralph C. John, Berlin, Md.; Mr. John John, Gautier, Miss.; Dr. Byron M. John, Merritt Island, Fla.; Rev. J.M. John, Lynchburg; and Mrs. Virginia J. Black, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Miss Elizabeth McCulloch, Silver Spring, Md.; sixteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. The family will be at Oakey's, Roanoke, to receive friends and relatives from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Interment will be at Sherwood Memorial Park for family only. A memorial service will be held at her church, Locust Grove United Methodist, 3403 Locust Grove Lane, Salem, at 2:00 p.m. Monday with the pastor, Rev. Thomas D. Maddrey in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Organ Fund at her church.
