Alvin E. Smith, age 84, of 222 Winesap Rd., Madison Heights, died Friday, March 29, 1991, in Lynchburg General hospital. He was the husband of Thelma Taylor Smith. He was born September 1, 1906, in Floyd County. He was the son of the late Floyd A. Smith and Nannie Akers Smith. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Navy and was retired from the maintenance department of the General Electric Company and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Blacksburg, Va. Addition to his wife, he is survived by one sister, Gertrude Smith of Blacksburg; a number of nieces and nephew. Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday in Fort Hill Memorial Park by Dr. Merle Ziegler. The family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Monelison Fire & Rescue Squad. Diuguid Rivermont Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
