RELIGIOUS LEADER GUILTY OF PLOTTING MAN'S DEATH

The leader of a Hare Krishna spinoff community was convicted Friday of racketeering and fraud charges alleging he authorized murder, kidnapping and beating of his devotees to protect an illegal enterprise.

Kirtanananda Swami Bhaktipada, 53, was convicted of all six counts of mail fraud and three out of five counts of racketeering, including being part of a conspiracy to kill a fringe member of the community, Charles St. Denis, in 1983.
