BANGLADESH LEADER'S PARTY WINS MAJORITY

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Saturday won all but two Parliament seats reserved for women, guaranteeing Prime Minister Khaleda Zia a majority in the 330-seat assembly.

Zia was named prime minister of a minority government on March 19, becoming the first woman to hold the post in the predominately Muslim nation.

The Election Commission reported 28 candidates from Zia's party were elected unopposed Saturday. The other two seats were filled by the Jamaat-e-Islami party, a religious Muslim group whose candidates also were not challenged.
