VACANT HOUSE FIRE CALLED SUSPICIOUS

The cause of a fire that damaged a vacant two-story house in Southwest Roanoke early Saturday has been called suspicious.

Firefighters were on their way to answer another alarm about 2 a.m. when they saw the entire roof of a house at 1215 Chapman Ave. in flames, officials said. The fire, which caused $20,000 worth of damage, is believed to have started in the attic.

The four engines that responded to the call had the fire under control within 30 minutes, officials said.
