PRISONER KILLED DURING ESCAPE TRY

Prince William County police on Saturday identified a prisoner who died after he was shot during an escape attempt.

A Dumfries town police officer was transporting Brian D. Bowles, 32, of Wayside, W.Va., in a vehicle at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday when Bowles escaped from the vehicle on foot, said Prince William police spokeswoman Kim Chinn.

The officer, who was also injured in the scuffle, was treated for minor injuries. The name of the officer will not be released, Chinn said.
