BLACKSBURG CRASH LEAVES 3 INJURED

Three people were injured Saturday afternoon in a head-on auto collision on North Main Street.

Police said Jeffrey R. Newell, 20, of Blacksburg was headed north when he attempted to make a left turn from North Main onto Patrick Henry Drive and pulled into the path of a southbound car driven by Emily A. Senter, 21, of Blacksburg. The two vehicles collided about 2:11 p.m., and the Senter vehicle struck a light pole, police said.

Newell was treated at Montgomery Regional Hospital and released. Senter and Lureen M. Collins, 24 years old of Christiansburg and a passenger in the Newell car, were admitted with multiple injuries and listed Saturday afternoon in stable condition, police said.

Both automobiles were a total loss, and Newell was charged with failing to yield the right-of-way, police said.

Newell faces a May 16 court date.
