TECH AND LOUISVILLE SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER

Virginia Tech scored 18 runs in two games, but split a baseball doubleheader with Metro Conference opponent Louisville on Saturday.

The Hokies (13-10 overall, 4-1 Metro) produced most of the day's offense in game one, slugging the Cardinals 17-5 on 17 hits. Steve Render had five hits for Tech, including two in a nine-run third inning. He also scored three times and drove in three runs.

Catcher Clint Creed added four RBI on three hits. Sophomore pitcher Scott Robertson from Patrick Henry High went the distance, allowing seven hits.

In the second game, Virginia Tech stranded nine during the first four innings and Louisville (11-17, 1-4) had a four-run fifth inning to beat the Hokies 6-1. see microfilm for box score
