HOKIES HAVE GOOD DAY ON TRACK AND IN FIELD

Virginia Tech's Cecelia Organ, Susan Gilmore, Tim Middleton and Greg Beale were victorious Saturday in the second day of competition of The Battleground Relays at Mary Washington College.

Organ won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.2 seconds; Gilmore tossed her discus 112 feet, 2 inches for her victory; Tim Middleton won the pole vault with a 13-foot effort; and Beale won the 400 hurdles in 54.5 seconds.

Tech's Mark Jackson came in second in the 400 hurdles.

Other Virginia Tech athletes who performed well were Cedric Patrick, who finished third in the 100-meter dash; Mike Sergent, second in the discus; Liz Madison, third in the 1,500-meter run; and Lauren Hall, fourth in the 1,500. - Staff report
