SECOND-HALF SURGE LIFTS ROANOKE TO WIN

Roanoke College shut out Denison in the second half Saturday and recorded a 12-5 victory over the Big Red in a battle of nationally ranked Division III men's lacrosse teams.

Roanoke (3-4), ranked 16th, tied the score 5-5 with 36 seconds left in the first half on a goal by Brett Smith, a sophomore attackman.

The Maroons then blew away 12th-ranked Denison (3-3) in the second half, outscoring the Big Red 7-0. They scored four third-quarter goals, and all three fourth-quarter goals were with a man advantage.

Smith led Roanoke with three goals and Brad Hennegan added two. Bart Zimmerman had four assists.
