MORE JUVENILES LOSE DRIVING PRIVILEGES

The number of juveniles losing driving privileges because they were caught trying to illegally purchase alcohol has increased sharply under the so-called "use and lose" law, the state Department of Motor Vehicles said.

There were 561 cases between July 1, 1990 and Dec. 31, 1990 in which teen-agers either had their driver's licenses suspended or issuance delayed by judges. Between July 1, 1989 and July 1, 1990, there were 383 juvenile court actions.

Under the law, judges can suspend the driver's license of a teen-ager or delay its acquisition if the youngster is convicted of alcohol or drug violations.
