9-YEAR-OLD HURT AFTER RUNNING INTO CAR

A 9-year-old boy was injured Saturday when he dashed out in front of a car and was hit.

The accident occured at Elm Avenue and 4th Street in Southeast Roanoke at about 3 p.m. The boy ran south across Elm into the path of a car driven by Kathleen Ann Fletcher of Vinton, police said.

The boy, whose name was not available, was in critical condition at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

There was no way Fletcher could have avoided hitting the boy, police said. No charges have been brought against her.
