HYPNOSIS PROGRAMS SHUT DOWN

Virginians who enrolled in hypnosis programs held by Dr. Kahl and Associates to help them stop smoking or lose weight are eligible for a refund as the result of an investigation by the State Division of Consumer Affairs in Richmond.

The investigation revealed that Donald Archie Kahl is not a physician and never has earned or been awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) by an accredited university, according to the division.

As a result of the investigation, the Virginia Attorney General's Office secured an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance with Kahl. As part of this assurance, Kahl has agreed to do the following:

Permanently and immediately cease and desist from falsely advertising, offering for sale or selling his hypnosis programs by misrepresenting the characteristics, benefits or uses of his services or by misrepresenting that he is a doctor or that he received a Ph.D.

Refund all monies to Virginia consumers who purchased his services and who request a refund after learning of the misrepresentations contained in Kahl's ads.

Pay civil penalties to the Commonwealth of Virginia.

To obtain a complaint form, call or write the State Division of Consumer Affairs at (804) 786-2042, 1100 Bank St., Room 101, Richmond, Va. 23219.
