FERRUM SWEEPS BY ONEONTA

Billy Wagener pitched a no-hitter in the second game as Ferrum swept a college baseball doubleheader from Oneonta (N.Y.) College on Sunday at Adams Field.

In the first game, the Panthers won 5-2 behind the 3-for-4 hitting of Jeff Lamie of Tazewell and the 10-strikeout, no-walk performance of Robert Fuller (5-0) of Chatham, who gave up five hits.

Ferrum won the no-hitter 4-1. Wagener (3-0), a freshman left-hander from Tazewell, struck out 12 and walked seven. The Panthers supported him with seven hits off two Oneonta pitchers.

Ferrum (17-2) was ranked seventh in Division III in the preseason poll. The new poll is expected to be released today.

Ferrum and Oneonta play again at 3 p.m. today.
