LEUKEMIA-TREATMENT PIONEER DIES AT 55

Dr. Kenneth B. McCredie, a pioneer in the treatment of adult leukemia, has died at age 55.

McCredie, the chief of the leukemia department at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, died at his home Saturday. The cause of death was not released at the family's request.

McCredie pioneered the use of combinations of anti-cancer drugs and biologic agents such as interferon in treatment and was a major force in moving treatment for cancer out of the hospital. Because of his research, some forms of adult leukemia can now be cured. - Associated Press
