OFFICIALS, OWNERS AGREE ON TIRE-FARM MEASURES

The owners of a farm where an estimated 1.25 million tires are stored have agreed with authorities on a plan to prevent the tires from catching fire and to clear them from the site.

According to Monday's agreement, Paul E. and Alma B. Rhinehart have one month to complete a field survey of the land and 100 days for an engineering plan for the tire removal. The Rhineharts also must submit a fire-prevention plan to the state Department of Waste Management.

The agreement was in response to a suit Attorney General Mary Sue Terry's office filed against the Rhineharts on Feb. 8, claiming violations of the Waste Management Act. The farm is where more than 7 million tires burned in 1983. - Associated Press
