CIVIC CENTER OFFICIAL VERN STEED, 35, DIES

Vern Steed, business coordinator for the Roanoke Civic Center, has died at the age of 35.

Bob Chapman, civic center manager, said Steed had gone to Knoxville for an Easter family reunion.

He said Steed was playing basketball with family members Saturday when he collapsed and died of a heart attack.

Steed had been at the civic center for three years.

Survivors include his wife, Courtney King Steed.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Knoxville's Bearden United Methodist Church.
