TAZEWELL SCHOOL CHIEF TAKES EARLY RETIREMENT

Tazewell County's school superintendent is joining other veteran educators who are taking advantage of a one-time early retirement program offered as a cost-savings measure.

Frank Cosby, 51, who has been superintendent here for seven years, says he will step down Aug. 1. The School Board will officially receive his retirement notice at its meeting Monday.

The General Assembly approved retirement for educators age 50 or above who have at least 25 years of work. Cosby has 27 years, including being superintendent previously in Craig County, Covington and Salem. He also taught social studies and worked as administrative supervisor in Wythe County.

He would have had two years to go on his current contract.
