ORGANIZED-LABOR RALLY SCHEDULED IN MARION

A solidarity rally for organized labor has been scheduled Sunday in Marion, where the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local 1764 has been on strike against Brunswick Corp. for a month.

Among the other unions expected to participate are United Auto Workers Local 2069, which has been on strike against Volvo-GM Heavy Trucks since March 8, and the United Mine Workers of America, which weathered a 10 1/2-month strike against Pittston Corp. ending a little more than a year ago.

The activities will start with a parade at 2:30 p.m. going down Main Street to Commerce Street for its final two blocks to Cherry Street. The rally will follow at the Marion Senior High School stadium. - Southwest bureau
