ISSUE IS THE RACES, NOT THE PROMOTER

YOUR EDITORIAL March 22 made several interesting arguments in support of my position on racing at Victory Stadium, including the popularity of racing, constructive use of the stadium, increased business activity, etc. It seems that the facts have convinced some that my concept merits a trial, and your article did a good job of pointing that out.

The valid points you made will not change, and we can assume that the paper will stand behind points made in its editorials. Having conceded those, you chose to attack the individual rather than the issue.

Perhaps your problems all along have been with Whitey Taylor, not racing in Victory Stadium. You made a big issue out of my "run-ins with authorities" and my escapades at the Franklin County Board of Supervisors meeting. Are you willing to tell everyone who appeals a tax increase that they are displaying outrageous gall?

Let's be fair, guys, my record of promoting stands for itself. I can get the cars and crowd to Franklin County Speedway or Victory Stadium. That's the issue, not Whitey Taylor's personality. All I ask is that the city give me a chance to put Victory Stadium to productive use and enjoyment by all valley residents. WHITEY TAYLOR ROANOKE
