STEELWORKERS RATIFY CONTRACT WITH SHIPYARD

Members of the United Steelworkers of America have voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new contract with Newport Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., the union said today.

The vote was 2,370 for the contract and 330 against, said union spokeswoman Joan Sutton. The union has about 9,000 members at the shipyard.
