JUDGE'S STAYING OUT OF TROUBLE WILL GET DRUNK CASE DROPPED

A judge who was charged with being drunk in public will have the matter dropped Aug. 2 if she stays out of trouble until then.

Norfolk Circuit Judge Lydia Calvert Taylor pleaded no contest Monday to the charge, and General District Judge Ralph B. Robertson took the case under advisement.

James C. Roberts, Taylor's attorney, said his client decided not to contest the charge because, "She did not want to go through the evidence again . . . It was an unpleasant experience."

Taylor was a passenger in a car driven by Richmond lawyer Douglas A. Scott, 39, when the car was stopped by police on Feb. 22.

Scott was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and refusing to take a breath or blood test. His case is to be heard May 10.
