The route for the 11-day event will cover approximately 1,100 miles in four states. The event will begin May 9 with an individual time trial prologue in Wilmington, Del.
Following stages in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia, the race will conclude May 19 in Wilmington, Del., headquarters of the event's new title sponsor. The Tour Du Pont, which succeeds the Tour de Trump, will offer $300,000 in cash and merchandise, making it the richest cycling event in the United States. The winner will receive $50,000.
In addition to LeMond and Breukink, the international field will include 15 professional and three amateur teams.
The Tour Du Pont will be televised nationally by CBS and ESPN and will also be broadcast via satellite to 88 countries.
