TRIAL SET IN SHOOTING OF MONTGOMERY DEPUTY

A June 7 trial date has been set for Jerry Ray Brandau, who is accused of shooting and injuring a Montgomery County sheriff's deputy last July.

Brandau is charged with attempted murder and using a firearm to commit a felony in connection with Deputy Robert Fleet's shooting.

The shooting occurred when Fleet and Deputy Lloyd Heslip tried to evict Brandau from a house off Virginia 647 in the Ironto section of the county. - New River Valley bureau
