COMMISSION TO RECONSIDER LAKE TRAILERS

The Franklin County Planning Commission will reconsider its decision to recommend denial of a trailer-park proposal at Smith Mountain Lake.

Planning Commission member Hubert Ruff Sr., who cast the deciding vote last week, has asked that the issue be reconsidered at the panel's meeting April 23.

Ruff said he wanted time to consider a septic-drainfield report inadvertently left out of commission members' packets before the meeting.

Ruff's request breathes new life into a special-use permit request from Jeff Dudley and his mother, Augusta.

The Dudleys want to add 16 units to an existing mobile-home park on their farm at Virginia 616 and 601.

The request has drawn strong opposition from neighbors, who say the new mobile homes would be an eyesore.

The Planning Commission had voted 4-3 to recommend denial of the permit. The Board of Supervisors will have final say.
