BLACKSBURG SPRING CLEANING UNDER WAY

The town's spring cleanup program continues through April 26.

Each fall and spring, residents are encouraged to leave one truckload of furniture, paint cans or other unwanted boxed or bagged items not included in regular trash service for pickup. Residents may also leave a truckload of brush and chippable yard waste to be picked for recycling into mulch.

Pickup for the southwest area of town started Monday and continues through Friday. Other collection areas and dates are:

\ Southeast: April 8-12.

\ Northwest: April 15-19.

\ Northeast: April 22-26.

Residents should follow these pickup guidelines:

All material should be at curbside by 8 a.m. on the first day of pickup in the area. There will be no return pickup routes.

No branches or tree limbs more than seven feet long will be accepted. Also, weeds, grass, small branches or trimmings must be tied, bagged or boxed and piled with nonmulchable waste.

A special handling charge will be applied to any item weighing more than 100 pounds.

Hazardous wastes, including household or yard chemical products and batteries, will not be collected.
