GILES UPENDED 12-8 BY RICHLANDS HOMERS

Ronnie Cordle hit two home runs and John Arnold added one as Richlands stopped Giles 12-8 in a non-district high school baseball game called after six innings because of darkness.

Cordle hit a three-run homer in the first inning and added a two-run homer in the sixth. Arnold's three-run homer came in the sixth inning.

Andy Tawney led Giles with two hits and three RBI.

In other baseball:

Carroll County pitcher Chris Leonard struck out five, walked five and gave up five hits over 6 innings to beat Narrows 7-4.

At Buckingham, Ryan Gilleland was 3-for-3 with two RBI, and J.R. Burk and Barret Bryant each had two hits and two RBI to lead Jefferson Forest (2-3) to a 9-3 Seminole District victory over Buckingham County (1-4).

\ SOFTBALL: Ali Colgrove and April Green each had two hits and three RBI as Cave Spring (2-2) whipped visiting Floyd County 21-6 in its season opener.

\ TRACK: The Christiansburg boys' team won every event in taking a 122-5 track victory from visitor Giles. In the girls' competition, Giles came out on top 76-51, but Christiansburg's Holly Slusser captured the high jump, 400- and 800-meter runs. - Staff report
