NEW YORK TIMES EXPANDING SPORTS

The New York Times will introduce an expanded daily sports report, beginning Tuesday. It will include greater coverage of local teams and increased use of photographs, charts, diagrams and statistics.

Max Frankel, the newspaper's executive editor, announced the plan Wednesday, saying the report would appear Tuesdays through Saturdays in a fixed position inside the metropolitan news section, the second part of the paper.
