HAWKINS, ROBERTSON LEAD TECH PAST UVA 7-6

J.R. Hawkins collected three hits and Scott Robertson picked up his fifth pitching victory of the season Wednesday as Virginia Tech defeated Virginia 7-6 in college baseball.

Tom Zban added two hits and drove in two runs for the Hokies (14-12), who led 7-3 before holding on for the victory.

Robertson (5-0) went eight innings before tiring. Jamie Patteson pitched the ninth, earning his sixth save.

Virginia (16-13-2) got two hits apiece from Ron Zucchelli, Kevin O'Sullivan and Shawn Mitchell.

The Hokies are scheduled to play a 3 p.m. game today at Appalachian State, then travel to Memphis State for a doubleheader Saturday and one game Sunday. Tech plays on Tuesday at Radford at 3 p.m.

Tech's next home game is next Thursday against Old Dominion at 3 p.m.
