`RUMPELSTILTSKIN' TO BE STAGED THIS WEEKEND

The Council for Community Enrichment will stage its spring production, "Rumpelstiltskin," this weekend. The three-act play, adapted by Charlotte B. Chorpenning from the Grimm Brothers' classis tale, will be shown at three New River Valley schools.

Lynn Sharp, the director, has been working on the play since January. "We didn't choose the play until the second week in January, then we began casting in February. We started general work on the play - costumes, sets - two days a week in February, then we concentrated just on the play in March," she said.

This is the first three-act play that Sharp has directed. She said it has been challenging to work with students from all over the valley.

"It is hard sometimes," she said, "for parents to get their children to the rehearsals. . . ."

There are cast members from grades four through 12 - Jacqueline Cook, Evan Gregory, Richie Jackson, Michelle Lookadoo, Andy Davis, Brian Kugler, Jed Singer, Carol Castleberry and Jennifer Rooker, Belle Heth Elementary in Radford; Sylvia Phillips and April Smith, Radford High School; Steve Murphy and Sarah Shoemaker, Dalton Intermediate in Radford; Tiffany Peterson, Blacksburg High School; and John Curtis, Blacksburg Middle School.

Sponsors are the New River Valley Heart Clinic, Dr. Uzair Wyne, First Virginia Bank Southwest and Sovran Bank.

The play will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Auburn High School in Riner, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Radford High and Sunday at 3 p.m. at Blacksburg High School.

Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children. The admission fee covers production costs of sets and costumes.
