MUMPOWER ELECTED DEMOCRATIC LEADER

Ginger Mumpower has been elected chairwoman of Radford's Democratic committee.

She is a former city councilwoman and is co-owner of Ginger's Jewelry stores in Radford, Roanoke and Galax. Mumpower said increasing membership would be her first priority.

"I can't think of a better leader for the Radford Party than Ginger," said Jamie Woodhouse, Ninth District Democratic chairman and Radford committee member. "She brings great energy and ability to the job, and that's the key to success."

Mumpower was elected to council in 1984 at the age of 23, leading the ticket of four candidates. She was defeated in a 1988 re-lection bid when current council members Bob Nicholson and Guy Wohlford were elected.
