Reba McEntire makes her first concert appearance today with a new band that was formed after eight members of her entourage were killed in a plane crash last month.

She resumes performing in Cleveland following a week of rehearsal with six new band members.

The six join two band members who were not aboard the private plane that crashed March 16 in California following a McEntire concert in San Diego.

The new band will travel by bus on the coming concert tour, said McEntire spokeswoman Stacey Harrison. The band normally traveled by bus but had to fly out of San Diego last month to reach a concert the next night in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Two generals whose names became household words during the Gulf War - Colin Powell and Norman Schwarzkopf - will be honored in a ticker-tape parade, along with thousands of U.S. and allied troops.

Troops from the Vietnam, Korean and other wars will take part in "Operation Welcome Home" festivities, Mayor David Dinkins said Tuesday.

"This will be New York's and perhaps the world's largest ticker-tape parade," Dinkins said.

Powell, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Schwarzkopf, commander of Allied Forces in the Gulf, have accepted invitations to appear in the June 10 parade, Dinkins said.

"We always thought the people that would be on the other end of the checks would be the beneficiaries," the actor told 200 food distributors Tuesday. "But we were very wrong. We're the beneficiaries."
