WOMAN WRESTLES WEAPON AWAY FROM CAPTOR

A 37-year-old woman suffered cuts to both hands when she wrestled a knife from an assailant Wednesday in the 1900 block of Top Hill Drive Northwest.

The woman, identified by Roanoke police as Jennie M. Acres, was treated at Community Hospital.

She told Roanoke police she had been picked up about 5:15 p.m. near Eighth Street and Church Avenue Southeast by a man who offered to give her a ride.

En route, the man told her he needed to go to an isolated area on Top Hill Drive to use the restroom.

He came back to the car with a knife and tried to stab her, but missed and hit the seat. When he tried to stab her a second time, she grabbed the knife from his hand and fled.

In another report to police:

A 17-year-old North Roanoke County youth was charged after he apparently took exception to his father's 11 a.m. wake-up effort Wednesday. When the father jostled the youth awake, they started arguing and got into a shoving match. The boy went to his car, grabbed a knife and held it to his father's head, Roanoke County police said. The son, whose name was not released because of his age, was charged with attempted malicious wounding. He told police he got mad because his father poked him in the ribs.
