NEW AWARD TO HONOR ENGINEERING EDUCATOR

The Virginia Engineering Awards Committee has created an annual award to honor an outstanding engineering teacher.

The Pletta Award is named for Dan H. Pletta, a Virginia Tech distinguished professor emeritus.

Nominations are sought for the first Pletta Award, to be presented on June 22 in Virginia Beach. The deadline for receiving nominations is April 15.

Pletta is an authority on engineering ethics. He taught 1932-72 at Tech. His books include "The Engineering Profession" and two texts on engineering mechanics. He has received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Society of Professional Engineers.

The Pletta Award will recognize commitment to teaching and public service among current faculty at accredited Virginia engineering schools.

For information and forms, write Virginia Engineering Awards Committee, 116 E. Franklin St., Suite 601, Richmond, Va. 23219-2118.
