VMI FOOTBALL SPRING GAME SATURDAY

VMI will have its third spring football game under coach Jim Shuck at 1 p.m. Saturday at Alumni Memorial Field. Shuck reinstated the Red/White game in 1989 after a 16-year absence.

The Red team will be directed by starting quarterback Tony Scales and All-State tight end Dan Lyle. Also starting in the Red backfield will be fullback Chris Meacham from Lord Botetourt High and halfback Eric Walker from North Cross.

The White team is led by junior quarterback Frank Wilder and includes All-Southern Conference center Lorenzo Carpenter and halfback Marcus Mines, the team's leading rusher the past two seasons.

Other starters from Timesland are offensive tackle Eric Plogger (Lexington), defensive tackle Dwayne Ross (Alleghany), free safety Dale Johnson (James River) and safety Mike Morgan (Cave Spring). - Staff report
