GULF SAILOR SLAIN AT HOME; WIFE CHARGED

A chief petty officer assigned to the aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy was found stabbed to death in his home early Thursday, a week after the ship returned from the Persian Gulf War.

The body of Richard D. Swanson, 32, was found in the bedroom of his home shortly after 1 a.m., police said. Police had been called by Swanson's wife, Valerie, 32, who said she found her husband unconscious after she returned from a trip to the store.

Valerie Swanson and Alan J. Marcotte, 24, of Virginia Beach, were charged with first-degree murder.
