STEREOTYPING BY ED SHAMY

ED SHAMY'S article March 24 on license plates really stirred my temper. He categorized everyone from West Virginia as poverty-struck, corrupted and not enlightened.

What right does he have to assume everyone fits into this category? I for one am a college graduate, own my own business, have an above-middle-class income and can assure Mr. Shamy I am "enlightened."

Perhaps he would like all columnists to be put in one category, or all Virginians. People are people - each different, each unique.

Unlike Mr. Shamy, I try to dwell on the good side of people from West Virginia - their warmth, friendliness and their individual talents - however big or small they are. SUE JEFFRIES WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.VA.
