MEDIA HAVE NO RIGHT TO LAMBASTE BUSH

FREEDOM of the press does not give the news media the right to lambaste the American public and the president of the United States with liberal and anti-war views in an attempt to demoralize our troops coming home from the Gulf War.

Paxton Davis (column, March 22) stated George Bush was encouraged by the "defeat" of a weak Third World enemy and we "won" because Bush and his allies were willing to kill civilians and enemy soldiers. He called Bush a demagogue and said Bush behaves like a drunken sailor and is wrong on every point.

The above is just some of the garbage in his column. I know your paper and Davis don't like Bush. Now both Davis and your paper are the biggest wimps of all time.

I don't want to forget the remark by Bob Willis (column, March 10): "I am left profoundly depressed by the home-front reaction. Nothing is easier than rallying 'round the flag, cheering our conquering heroes and welcoming them home. That's the warm, fuzzy stuff we like. It's all emotion." What is wrong with patriotism?

Your paper should know Saddam started the war, and if you are going to cry about innocent people being killed in Iraq, stop and think about Kuwait when the big Iraqi tanks came rolling in. PRESTON HATCHER RADFORD
