PULASKI'S RACING SEASON TAKES TO THE AIRWAVES TODAY

RACING: WRAD and WRIQ start coverage of the Pulaski County Speedway today with the first race of the season at 7:30 p.m. WJJJ and WVVV air "Fast Lane '91" Saturday, 5-7 p.m., with live race updates and previews from the speedway.

In NASCAR racing, WJJJ and WNRV carry the Darlington Raceway TranSouth 500 Sunday, 12:45 p.m.

\ BASEBALL: Hear it this week over WVVV, WJJJ, WUVT and WKEX: Virginia Tech is at Memphis State on Sunday, 2 p.m., then travels to UVa on Wednesday, 7 p.m., and is host to South Carolina Friday, 3 p.m., and Saturday, 2 p.m.

\ LIVE: WUVT on Sunday sponsors off-the-wall poet rocker King Missile out of New York at the South Main Cafe in Blacksburg for a fund-raiser. Tickets are $4 and $5 at the door.

Friday, WVVV will be at the Blacksburg Marriott for finals in the "Great Bake-Off" tanning contest.

Ronnie Henson will be "Live on Stage" over WPUV today, 9-10 a.m.

Tonight, WFNR's Bill Lineberry is master of ceremonies at the Blue Ridge Music Association's jamboree, at the New River Wildlife Building, six miles west of Galax on Virginia 274, at 7 p.m. Four bluegrass groups and a clogging group will perform.

\ CHRISTIAN ROCK: "Street Light Cafe" airs Sunday, 7:30-9 a.m. on WVVV-Rock 105, with host Don Webber.

\ COMEDY: WVRU simulcasts "What Ever Happened To . . . " Sunday, 5:30 p.m., featuring TV, music and film stars as they look back on their lives. This week's guest is Yvonne Craig, who played Batgirl in the campy "Batman" series during the '60s.

WVRU's "Hub City Spoke Repair," Wednesday, 9:30 p.m., takes a satirical look at current affairs.

\ ROCK: WVRU's "Long Live Rock," Monday, 9 p.m., starts a special feature on Led Zeppelin. This week's program covers the years 1968-71.

On WVVV this week: Album Feature, Sunday, 11 p.m., with the Eagles' "On the Border"; "Rock Line," Monday, 11:30 p.m., with Pat Benatar; "Rest of the Record," odd hours on Tuesday, features Bob Dylan's Bootleg album; "Five At Five" Friday features the Rolling Stones.

WVRU's "Guide Wire Radio," Monday, 8 p.m., has independently produced acts from around the world and music from various unsigned bands.

\ DANCE: WUVT's "House Party" airs 9-midnight Saturday.

WPSK hosts the "Country Dance Party" at the Blacksburg Marriott each Sunday. Dance lessons begin at 7 p.m. and the party starts at 9.

\ INTERNATIONAL: Saturday, WUVT's lineup includes classical music, 6-9 a.m.; Greek broadcasting, 9-11 a.m.; "The Persian Show," 11 a.m.; "The International Show" at 1 p.m.; Reggae, 3-6 p.m.; and "Urban Blight," an eclectic mix of thrash, rap and reggae, 6-9 p.m. On Sunday, it's reggae, 3-6 p.m.

\ COUNTRY: WPSK's "Star Trax" airs Sunday, 10 p.m. "CD Feature of the Week" is Sunday, 11 p.m. Today, 8 a.m.-noon and Sunday, 4-8 p.m., "Bob Kingsley's American Country Countdown" lists the top 40. "Stories Behind the Songs" airs Sunday, 10 p.m.

WKEX has a live country music show today at noon featuring Southbound.

\ NEWS: WKEX's "Focus on the Family" airs twice weekdays with "The Inner City Family" on Monday; "Your Attitude: The Key to Success," Tuesday and Wednesday; and "Mother: The Heart of the Home," Thursday and Friday.

WVRU's "Talk of the Town," Wednesday, 8 p.m., and Friday, 1:30 p.m., features John Duke Anthony, president and CEO of the National Council on U.S.-Arab relations, discussing the Persian Gulf after the war.

\ CHILDREN: On WUVT Sunday: "Hickory Dickory Dock" airs kid stuff and call-ins 9-11 a.m.; "Mash Potatoe Radio" has stories, readings and music at 11 a.m.

\ GOSPEL: WFNR's "The Gospel Night Train" airs Sunday, 6-10 p.m.

WRAD's "Morning Worship" from the First Baptist Church is 11 a.m. Sunday; "In Touch" airs at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

WPUV's "Home Town Gospel" today, 9-10 a.m., has a live center-stage segment with the Sweet Adeline Choir.

On Sunday, WKEX airs services from the Blacksburg Baptist Church, 8:30 a.m.; the Glade Baptist Church, 9 a.m., and the Blacksburg United Methodist Church, 11 a.m.

WBLB carries the Top 40 hits in Southern Gospel music today, 8-noon. "Gospel Greats" airs today, 4-6 p.m.

\ JAZZ: WUVT plays it weekdays, 9-noon and Sundays, 6-9 a.m.

WVRU plays "Mellow Tones" Sunday, 9-11 a.m.

WKEX has "Wax Works," 1-2 p.m. weekdays, which features big band, jazz, swing and ballad greats.
