Hunter B. Hale, Sr., age 79, of Vinton, died Thursday evening in a Salem hospital. He was born in Narrows On February 25, 1911 and was the son of the late Rufus C. and Hattie McClanahan Hale. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Louise Hale. He was a member of the Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton, and was a retired supervisor for the Norfolk and Western Railroad having worked in the East End Shops in Roanoke. He was a graduate of Narrows High School. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Williams Hale; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rev. Hunter B. and Frances M. Hale, Thaxton, Va.; Larry F. Hale, Vinton, Va.; two brothers, Mason W. and Paul C. Hale, both of Narrows, two sisters, Mrs. Pauline H. Thomas, Mt. Airy, Md.; Mrs. Helen Fowler, Narrows; two granddaughters, Heather M. and Christian N. Hale, both of Thaxton, Va. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Riffe's Funeral Chapel in Narrows with Rev. Byron A. Wilkinson and Rev. W. E. Hungate officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Va. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows Saturday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m.
