MILL MOUNTAIN ZOO RAISING ADMISSION

Admission prices at the Mill Mountain Zoo increase today.

Tickets for adults will cost $3.50, up from $2.75. Admission for children under 12 will rise to $2 from $1.75. Children under 2 still will be admitted free.

"Like everything else, the cost of all we need to run the zoo is going up - from food to insurance," said Beth Poff, the zoo's director.

Additionally, a corporate fund-raising campaign mounted early this year failed to raise enough money to subsidize the cheaper admission fees, she said.

Group rates also will rise, from $1.50 for adults and $1 for children under 12 to $2 for adults and $1.50 for children. The rates apply to groups of 10 visitors or more.

The zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
