WINNING PURSE GROWS TO $2,500 AT FCS

Tony McGuire and more than 20 other Late Model Stock drivers will have an extra incentive tonight as Franklin County Speedway opens with the Pepsi-Cola 300, the first points race of the season.

Promoter Whitey Taylor said an anonymous donor has added $1,000 to the winner's purse. The winner of the 50-lap feature will now receive a record $2,500.

"I had an area businessman call me on the phone after the vote at Victory Stadium and said he wanted to put up the money but he didn't want anyone to know who he was," Taylor said. "This is really going to give the drivers something to shoot for - $2,500 for 50 laps is unheard of."

The event features Street Stock, Mini Stock, Rookie, Any Car and the new Modified division. - Staff report
