EASTER FANS 16 TO DROP GILES

Daniel Easter tied a school record Friday by striking out 16 batters to lead Carroll County to a 3-1 non-district baseball victory over Giles.

Easter (1-0) permitted only five hits and walked three as the Cavaliers improved to 4-1. Stacy Hutchens had two hits and knocked in the only run for Giles (1-4).

In other baseball:

At Riner, Chris Dunford pitched a four-hitter and went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Narrows (4-1) to an 11-4 victory over Auburn (2-4).

Rodney Perdue had three hits, scored three runs and knocked in two runs for the Green Wave.

At North Cross, Floyd County (2-5) swept a non-district doubleheader against the Raiders (1-3). Mike Quesenberry hit a two-run homer to lead the Buffaloes to a 7-5 first-game victory. In the second game, Bob Bennett pitched a three-hit shutout and Les Thompson had two hits and two RBI as Floyd won 4-0.

At Blacksburg, Josh Herman drove in five runs and Mark Tuck tied a school record with five stolen bases as William Byrd pounded the Indians 12-4.

At Christiansburg, Richard Goodpasture had a triple and a single as Salem downed the Demons 6-3.

At Franklin County, Dee Dalton broke open the game with a three-run triple in the fifth and Cave Spring (2-3, 1-1) rolled to an 8-1 Roanoke Valley District victory over the host Eagles (4-1, 2-1). Ray Kaczmarek went 2-for-4 with a triple and Reid Herskovitz went 2-for-3 with a triple for Cave Spring.
