HERMAN, TUCK SPARK TERRIERS

Josh Herman drove in five runs and Mark Tuck tied a school record with five stolen bases as William Byrd pounded Blacksburg 12-4 Friday in a non-district baseball game.

Herman had two hits, including a third-inning two-run homer, and Brian Young had three hits.

In other baseball:

At North Cross, Floyd County (2-5) swept a doubleheader from the Raiders (1-3). Mike Quesenberry hit a two-run homer to lead the Buffaloes to a 7-5 first-game victory. In the second, Bob Bennett pitched a three-hitter, winning 4-0.

At William Fleming, Heritage parlayed an error, a walk and two singles into a three-run seventh and won 5-3 over the Colonels (0-5).

At Christiansburg, Richard Goodpasture had a triple and a single as Salem beat the Demons 6-3.

At Franklin County, Cave Spring's Dee Dalton broke open the game with a three-run triple in the fifth as Cave Spring (2-3, 1-1) scored an 8-1 Roanoke Valley District victory over the host Eagles (4-1, 2-1).

\ BOYS' SOCCER: At Glenvar, Charlie Cox scored three goals to spark the Highlanders (2-3) to a 6-0 romp over James River (1-2).

At Johnson City, Tenn., North Cross edged Tennessee High 1-0 on Ryan Cook's goal in the first round of the Virginia/Tennessee Shootout at East Tennessee State University.
