WOMAN, 19, CONVICTED OF MURDERING FATHER

A 19-year-old woman now faces a possible 20 years in prison after being convicted of second-degree murder in the shotgun slaying of her father.

A Greene County Circuit Court jury deliberated less than two hours Friday before convicting Lisa Sargent and recommending she serve a 20-year sentence.

The defense contended Sargent shot her father, Morgan Lee Breeden, in self-defense after years of abuse.

Sargent testified Thursday that she shot her father after he beat her the morning of Aug. 29 and later held a .22-caliber pistol in her face as she sat on a porch swing.
