3 CHARGED IN ATTEMPTED WYTHE KILLING

Three men have been charged with attempted murder in the Feb. 22, 1990, wounding of Wythe County landfill supervisor Danny Copenhaver at his home in Speedwell.

The charges are against Glen C. Ogle, 62, of Austinville; Nathan V. Lovern, 19, of Barren Springs, and a man who is now 19 but was a juvenile at the time.

Sheriff Wayne Pike said his department has been working on the case since Copenhaver was seriously wounded when a shotgun was fired into his home as he sat with his wife and son in his living room. Copenhaver has undergone surgery several times.

Ogle and Fred Leon Martin Jr. of Barren Springs also have been charged with shooting out windows in several businesses and homes.

Those shootings occurred two months ago in the Fort Chiswell, Austinville and Wytheville areas. - Southwest bureau

Because of a reporter's error, a story Saturday on three men charged in Wythe County with attempted murder gave the wrong name of one man who also faces vandalism charges in a separate incident. Nathan V. Lovern, 19, of Barren Springs also is charged with vandalism.
